Something that doesn’t get talked about enough in the knitting world is hand health. We use our hands extensively in our craft, so it's essential to take care of them, and exercises can help! Here are a few that I have found helpful.
Stretch out your fingers and hold for 10 seconds, then close your fist for 10 seconds. Repeat 5-10 times.

Interlace your fingers together and rotate your hands in a circular motion, then try the opposite direction. Rotate 5-10 times in each direction.

Hold your palms together upright, and push down so your fingers put some pressure against each other. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 2-3 times.

Hold your right arm straight in front of you with your palm facing down, and use your left hand to gently push your hand down until you feel the stretch in your forearm. Hold for 10 seconds. Try it again on your left hand. Repeat 2-3 times.

Try the last exercise again, but with your palms facing up.

With your right palm facing down, use your left hand to gently pull your right thumb towards you. Hold for 10 seconds, then try it with your left thumb. Repeat 2-3 times.

In addition to these exercises, compression gloves can help keep your hands moving as well, especially if you’ll be knitting for an extended period. I recently knitted for 12 hours straight for charity, and my compression gloves came in very handy! As always, if you have any questions or comments, use the form below to send me an email. Happy stitching!
